Rep. James Byrd Announces Reelection Bid

Plans to focus on economic diversification and quality education

Cheyenne, WY – Rep. James Byrd of Cheyenne announced today he will seek reelection to Wyoming House District 44. Today he released the following statement:

“I want to continue serving in the Wyoming legislature because I know there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. In my second term I want to focus on two important issues: Wyoming’s economy and quality education.

“There is some great work being done to attract a more diverse array of jobs to Wyoming, such as the tax credit for data centers which passed the legislature this past session. I want to continue efforts to diversify Wyoming’s economy with more initiatives of this nature. Now more than ever we need to focus on long-term economic planning that will move us beyond boom-and-bust cycles.

“In conjunction with economic diversification it is imperative that we adequately prepare our youth for the future. We need to offer our children the tools to succeed by creating a more accessible and effective educational system. This goes from the very basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, to providing technical training through junior colleges, to supporting research at the University of Wyoming.

“As we move into the campaign season I look forward to speaking to the people of Cheyenne and hearing their issues and concerns. It has been a pleasure to represent House District 44 for the past two years and I hope to have the honor to continue to serve them.”

Rep. Byrd was elected in 2008 to the Wyoming House of Representatives.
